Family Lawyers Debenhams Ottaway St Albans City of ExpertiseDebenhams Ottaway family lawyers Helen Young and Helen Clyne joined other Resolution members to lobby in Parliament on 30 November. Resolution family lawyers represent 6,500 family justice professionals committed to supporting clients to reach non-confrontational resolutions to family disputes.

The main aim of the lobby day was to meet with MP’s to promote Resolution family lawyers calls for change in family legislation, in particular the introduction of no fault divorce, better rights for cohabitants, and greater access to justice for vulnerable people.

The lobby day gave members an opportunity to raise any local issues of concern, as well as establish and build upon existing links with their local MPs, who are increasingly seeing people with issues related to divorce and separation in their advice surgeries.   In total 150 Resolution members took part in the event to discuss the need for changes to existing family law legislation.

Helen Young said “I was delighted to travel to Parliament to discuss the real issues that separating couples face.  Current divorce law is not fit for today’s society.  Many couples simply fall out of love with each other and citing blame in the divorce papers often leads to unnecessary arguments and conflicts”.

Resolution family lawyers call for no fault divorce is supported by, amongst others, the most senior family judge in the country, the deputy president of the Supreme Court, the Family Mediation Task Force and Relate.
