Known for 41 years as The Council for Voluntary Service (CVS) the name no longer reflects the broad scope of their work. Research suggested that a new name should reflect their position at the heart of the local community – Community Central.
Community Central will still provide the core services for which St Albans City & District Council engages them; volunteering, funding & development, supporting partnerships and representation. In addition, they will introduce new services such as Business Engagement along with Supported Volunteering services for those in the community requiring extra support to access volunteering.
Community Central St Albans works to support the whole community, particularly the most vulnerable and excluded. We inspire people to volunteer, become a Trustee, or start a social enterprise. Charities thrive due to our expertise providing funding advice and engaging volunteers.
We are the local charity at the heart of our District bringing together all charities, social enterprises, businesses and the public to energise and strengthen the Community in which we live and work. Community Central also works on behalf of the St Albans Old People’s Trust, a local charity who award grants to older people in hardship & need and the Building Better Opportunities project, which provides intensive 1:1 support from our youth mentor for young people who are not currently in education, employment or training.
As the District’s foremost charity, we are here for anyone who wants to contribute to a more caring and vibrant community. We help businesses to make a bigger difference to St Albans by helping them share their expertise and resources with local charities. We proactively deliver targeted projects for those who are most vulnerable in order to improve their lives.
