Aon has been recognised as a Top 10 Company by the NatWest British LGBT Awards!

The awards – dubbed the ‘Gay Oscars’ by the press – celebrate the UK’s most loved LGBT personalities, innovators, and companies and last year, were the UK’s most publicised LGBT event. It’s a real honour to be recognised in the Top 10 companies, which were announced on 20 February in The Independent, Huffington Post and on social media channels.

Aon’s commitment to driving an inclusive culture for LGBT colleagues has taken a leap forward with a number of recent initiatives. To measure our progress we complete the annual Workplace Equality Index (WEI) run by Stonewall, the UK’s leading LGBT equality charity, and this year we improved by 97 places as a result of the work that we have done.

We scored highly on our work with the community, particularly around Team Pride where Aon was instrumental in bringing about a conference to support LGBT in Sports in February 2016. Since then, we have brought together a number of firms, particularly those that sponsor sports clubs to drive awareness of LGBT issues in sports.  This has been taken forward by Stonewall and Team Pride now sponsors the Rainbow Laces campaign in schools and local sports clubs and supported by professional sports clubs.

Aon was also commended for its allies programme to support LGBT colleagues and help drive awareness and inclusion internally.

What’s next?

In terms of the British LGBT Awards, an independent judging panel will review the Top 10 and the overall winner will be announced at a star-studded celebration on Friday 12 May.  Fingers crossed!
